INTRODUCTION

I’m Fatima, an interdisciplinary designer specializing in interaction design, UX, and systems thinking, creating empowering and intuitive user experiences. A recent graduate from Pakistan, I’m now based in Canada and actively seeking opportunities to help craft impactful and lasting digital products.

Let’s start with the basics (cue drumroll): I’m Fatima, a designer, problem-solver, and the kind of person who thrives in chaos (in the best way possible). I specialize in UX and systems thinking, but at my core, I’m all about creating experiences that feel intuitive, empowering, and just make sense.

I have a degree in Communication Design with a focus on Interaction Design, and I’ve spent my time researching, mapping, and building ecosystems that work with people, not against them. Understanding how things connect - users, systems, emotions, behaviors - is where I shine.

DESIGN VALUES

I always put my user at the core of my work - design is for people after all. Solutions that don't just stand alone but also integrade themselves holistically for my users.

I dive deep into my research and let my research guide me to make decisions in any project. I like to take the creative approach and pushing limits, and if the idea fails then that's what user testing is for! I truly believe fail fast and iterate is the best way to reach a solution.

FROM PAKISTAN, WITH LOVE

Growing up in Pakistan, I learned early on to be resourceful. Be it by collaborating with artisans or working with minimal technology, I learned how to make the most out of what was available to me.

This resourcefulness became a cornerstone of my design approach, where I learnt to view constraints in a different light: they were not the limitations but starting points of creativity.

CHILDHOOD

From picking up paintbrushes for Fine Arts in Cambridge O'Levels to leading an NGO's marketing efforts, I’ve explored creativity in every form. My journey into design started when I worked as the head of marketing for a healthcare NGO for two years, where I truly understood how design can impact lives. It ignited my passion for creating solutions that are both innovative and functional.

GROWTH

My university years were pivotal in shaping my approach: the first year, structured around the Bauhaus philosophy, exposed me to a variety of disciplines, from woodwork to technical drawing. The following years focused on interaction design, where I honed my skills in understanding interfaces beyond touchscreens and websites.

I love diving into complex user research, and I thrive on solving problems, even when they are undefined. Design isn’t just about creating a product; it’s about designing experiences that help people. By pushing myself to explore new mediums and approaches, I continuously evolve as a designer, making sure that every product I create is rooted in the user’s needs and is part of a bigger, functional ecosystem.

With that being said, I hope my unique approach to design can not only make the process more engaging but also make our interactions with technology feel as natural and integrated as possible in our everyday lives.

My approach to design is driven by experiential social innovation and creating natural interactions with technology. I hope to create meaningful digital products that change our everyday lives for the better.
